What is cognitive presence in distance education?


Teaching Presence 

Teaching presence is the planning and designing that go into building your course and what you do "in the moment" when interacting with the students. The parts of teaching presence that occur while the course is in session include facilitation of discourse and direct instruction.

Social Presence

Social presence involves a level of connection among teachers and students that determines how motivated participants are to take an active role in their own and perceived as a real person.

Transactional Presence

Transactional Presence,” refers to the degree to which a distance student perceives the availability of, and connectedness with, people in his/her classroom and feeling connected to his/her friends.    

Cognitive Presence

Cognitive presence is the extent to which learners are able to construct and confirm meaning through sustained reflection and discourse.
    

Educational Experience

The intersection part of the mind map is the effective product of these presences. In order to provide effective learning environment all of these presences need to considered.
